Zhangjiajie Macaque

China’s Zhangjiajie National Park is home to many different animal species, one of which is the highly adaptable macaque primate. Other than humans, the macaque is the most widespread primate on the planet. They can survive in tropical climates and wintry mountains and consume a wide range of seeds, fruits, tree bark, and even crustaceans. My wife and I found this one snacking on a few small berries while hiking through the thick jungle of China’s first national park.
