I must admit that I have a fascination with close-ups on creature’s eyes. Afterall, the eye is the window to the soul. I personally think eyes give away the emotion more than anything.
This particular eye belonged to a rather large African water buffalo. These creatures are one of Africa’s “Big Five.” A term originally used to describe Africa’s most dangerous, ferocious, and hard to hunt/kill animals. These five animals, the lion, elephant, rhino, leopard, and water buffalo do not go down easily. Water buffalos are aggressive creatures and will attack humans, especially after being injured by one. They usually travel in huge herds and the whole herd will attack if one is injured. According to animaldanger.com, the cape buffalo is responsible for about 200 human deaths every year.
