This short-horned lizard is a tiny, little reptile. He is a youngster, yet to fully develop the trademark horns that give his species their name. Compare him to the blade of grass that is casting a shadow on his scaly face and you start to really realize how small he is. I just lucked out spotting him while taking pictures of a prairie dog in Dinosaur National Monument. I heard him scurrying through the dry grass, looked down and the chase was on to get the photo.
