Island Raven

on

IslandRavenI found this Common Raven near the visitor center of Canyonlands National Park’s Island in the Sky area. He was a noisy and seemingly fearless creature perched on the beams of this well trafficked spot.

To many European cultures, the raven is a harbinger of death or somehow related to the darker side of the spiritual world. In Native American cultures, the raven was seen as a mischievous creature. According to mentalfloss.com, current studies show that these creatures are intelligent and social, on the level of dolphins and  chimpanzees.

When we were at this park in May (2016), there was a raven that walked along the paved parking area of one of the overlooks. He seemed not overly concerned with cars coming and going.
