My wife and I were exploring the southwest side of Jamaica when we came across this swelled-looking river. We were driving around and couldn’t resist pulling over on this otherwise normal bridge. We rented a car for the duration of our visit and I must admit that I found the aggressive driving somewhat thrilling. There was of course the learning curve of driving on the opposite side of the road. Jamaicans seem to like the challenge of “overtaking” their fellow drivers, even when the posted limits are being exceeded. Seriously, I got pulled over for driving too fast and I was overtaken a lot. Most of the roads we traveled on in Jamaica were two-lane and very curvy. I really didn’t have much trouble with the adjustments until after dark and then it seemed as if the crazier drivers came out. I was more or less run off the road twice. I’m sure it sounds worse than it was and I really did have fun exploring the less touristy spots of the central to western half of this beautiful island. The touristy spots are great too, but I like to get away from the resorts and the crowds and experience the real culture of places. I look forward to returning one day to explore the eastern half of the nation.
