The predawn light scatters on Lake Sherburne in Glacier National Park, Montana. Glacier was the first National Park that I fell in love with while on a cross-country road trip when I was nineteen years old. I was only there for a single day, but it made me a life long believer that the National Park System is one of the best ideas the U.S. ever had. I returned to the park twelve years later and spent a week camping and hiking with my wife. It was even better than I remembered.
