The San Luis Lake is one of Colorado’s state parks and it’s adjacent to the Great Sand Dunes National Park. It is strange to see such a beautiful body of water so close to desert sands. However, this lake is not permanent and many years pass when it is nothing more than a dried up hole in the earth. When Colorado has wet winters then the snow melts and the lake appears. If you are lucky enough to find yourself at this serene spot then bring plenty of bug spray as the mosquitoes take the opportunity to thrive. I returned home from this trip with a lot of itchy bumps and a few pints low on blood.
