This photo is truly a moment and landscape most likely lost to history. The trek up Queens Canyon was one of my favorite hikes in Colorado Springs.
In 2012, the Waldo Canyon wildfire swept through the area and Queens Canyon has been subsequently closed to hikers for the forseeable future. It it closed because of the potential for erosion caused by hikers, as well as the risk of flash floods. The amount of water that passes over the burnt soil and pushes the rocks down stream has undoubtably changed what is seen here. I still look forward to the day I can hike this path again and see the beauty that has risen from the ashes.
