This is Nevada Fall, located on the east end of Yosemite Valley. It is a strenuous 5.4 mile hike up 2000 feet to the top of the Fall from the Happy Isles area, along the Mist Trail. This is the second waterfall along the trail. You’ll need to hike past Vernal Fall to get to this picturesque spot.
The Mist Trail is absolutely gorgeous and is a great way to spend a day in the wilderness, although it can be very crowded. The crowds tend to taper off after Vernal Fall. If the hike is too difficult than you can opt out with a horse ride on the John Muir Trail, which is longer, but flatter.
This image is actually taken from the John Muir Trail. We used this as a loop back after taking the Mist Trail up. The Mist Trail isn’t visible in the image, but it’s on the other side of the waterfall, switchbacking its way up the cliffside through the small amount of trees between the Fall and the mountain. If you plan well and are feeling energetic you can make the Fall a stop on your way up Half Dome.
