Lost Season

Last week, I posted about my wife and I taking a trip into the Colorado mountains to see the fall colors. Instead of a colorful autumn day, we arrived to a wintry mix of snow and icy cloud cover. We had seemingly lost an entire season over the course of a few hours. This was ironic since we found ourselves at the apply named Lost Lake Slough near Crested Butte, Colorado. While this was a cold and dreary experience, it wasn’t without its own unique beauty. There is something about the snow-covered Evergreen trees reflecting on the still water, even through the dense fog, that I find magical. This was a rare sight on our first day as the fog was usually very thick and obscured the trees beyond, but occasionally we would catch a glimpse of what lay beyond the water’s edge.
