Course of a River

The unrelenting water of the Virgin River has cut the narrow path known as The Narrows into the Zion National Park landscape. In this photo, you can see how over time the water has slowly cut ridges into the slot canyon’s walls. This occurs when the water gets trapped against a rock and swirls in miniature whirlpools against the stone, eating away layers of rock and carving the patterns seen here.
