The American West is full of big sky. As a young boy that was the image, I was given of places like Utah, Montana, New Mexico and especially Texas. That somehow the sky is bigger out there in that magical country where the cowboys and buffalo roam. At times it seems like that highly improbable statement is somehow true. This moment of a Texas-sized sunset is a great example of such a time.
Jennifer and I were driving across Texas on our way back to Colorado. The long stretch of straight road climbed up a high hill. As we topped the hill there it was a big sky view. I had no choice, but to pull the truck over and capture the moment. That Texas-sized sunset reminded me of all the times growing up when I was told the sky is bigger out west. Maybe our childhood fantasies aren’t all fantasies.
