Last week I summited Longs Peak in Rocky Mountain National Park. It was difficult, to say the least. I couldn’t help but think back on our adventure along the unrestored part of the Great Wall. This death-defying adventure on the wall of Jiankou was a highlight of our time in China and I think about it often. Like Longs, I’m not sure I would do it again for fear of a sudden stop after a long fall. I enjoyed having the privilege and stamina of doing each of these adventures the first time.
Some memories live on throughout our lives. I expect that the memories of Jiankou and Longs Peak will both travel with me throughout my lifetime. As Jennifer and I have set out on this new nomadic chapter of our lives I think there will be many more memories to be made. I just hope they aren’t all as difficult as Longs and the wall of Jiankou.
