The Venetian Gondola is iconic. You see one of these small romantic boats and you immediately know you are in Venice or perhaps Vegas. For those who have been to the latter but not the former, you are missing out. I like Vegas, but the Venetian hotel ain’t got nothing on the general article.
The ancient floating city is like no other place I have ever been. There are no roads, just sidewalks and canals. It makes for an amazing place to visit, but I wonder what it would be like to live there. I do know one thing, those cobble stone streets are rough on suitcases. None of the water taxis run in the early morning hours. So when Jennifer and I arrived on the train at around 1am we had to drag our luggage up and down this maze of stone streets and bridges for nearly two miles. A rolling suitcase is pretty noisy on streets like these. Pretty sure we woke up some of the locals.
