Scale of the Panama Canal

This is a shot of the Panama Canal back in 2010. I’ve never seen an image that better describes the massive scale of not only the locks and ships, but of human innovation. The school bus makes this scale tangible for everyone. It blows my mind that these locks are more thanĀ 100 years old and that they move massive ships loaded down with tons of weight, with only inches to spare. This marvel of engineering speaks volumes to the ability of man to accomplish amazing things.
