The Waipapa Point Lighthouse has been a guiding light at the edge of the world for over one hundred and thirty years. Waipapa Point is located on the southern tip of New Zealand’s South Island. The lighthouse opened in 1884 after a passenger steamer went down on the Waipapa Point reef costing 131 people their lives.
This place gets some crazy wind. While there are no trees near the lighthouse, the trees a short ways inland have been blown in such a way that the limbs only grow on the north side of the tree.
