This is the north entrance to Yellowstone National Park. There is no gate on the entrance, because this land is set aside “for the benefit and enjoyment of the people.” I believe that our National Park System is one of the great results of a free society understanding the importance that all people are equal in the eyes of their Creator. This includes rich and poor, those who have gone before, those here now, and those who are to come. The importance of setting aside land that all people and generations are able to enjoy in its natural state was and remains a brilliant revelation.
Today is the day we celebrate our independence in the U.S.A. I believe that the founders of our great country were brilliant in the way they crafted our constitution to protect the rights of our citizens during a time in history when the value of life was cheap. Yes they fell short of protecting all people, but they set the foundations strong and over time our country has expanded its understanding of equal rights for all people. These inalienable rights have led the world to true freedom, the choice to do what we will with our lives, and the understanding that while individuals can own land that all the people should have access to the most miraculous places.
