Trail Rider Pass

I took this image from atop the 12,420′ Trail Rider Pass. This is one of the 4 passes that the Four Pass Loop trail traverses on its way around the Maroon Bells in Colorado. This is an epic backcountry backpacking trip of about 26 miles, although we added in a side trip to Geneva Lake and made it a 30 mile trip. This is a tough, high altitude hike and although some people who are extremely fit and a little crazy run it in one day, we took it at a much slower pace and stayed in the wilderness for four days. I would highly recommend this trail with at least three hiking days. I would say plan on staying longer as there were places I would have loved to just camp out at for a day or two. The Snowmass Lake in this picture was one of those places; remote, quiet, and serene. It doesn’t get much better then that.
