The Calypso Orchid is more commonly known as the “Fairy Slipper” because of its size and resemblance to a slipper. It’s a rare and delicate flower found in sheltered conifer forests of North America, Europe, and Asia. Although it has a large range of locations, it is considered endangered by many governments due to its fragile nature.
I found this particular flower in a remote part of a forest just off the Sandbeach Lake Trail in Rocky Mountain National Park. This solitaire flower was near one of the backcountry camping areas in the densely forested area.
