Calochortus Gunnisonii

The Calochortus Gunnisonii is a unique looking flower, native to the Rocky Mountain region. To me it looks like a flower that is also a throwing star. Just me? It wasn’t given its present day name until the mid-nineteenth century when it was named to honor Captain Gunnison who was a surveyor and explorer. The flowers can be found all over Colorado during the mid-summer months.
