I am one of those people who really like to explore new places. I will return to a place, but only if I feel there is something new to discover. I have been to the Garden of the Gods in Colorado Springs more times than I can remember. When we first moved to the Springs we would visit the Garden at least once a month, but as time has passed we usually only return to the Garden when family or friends are visiting. Don’t get me wrong it is an amazing place, but because of the large crowds and the fact that we had hiked ever square inch of the park, it lead us to seek out new locations beyond the Garden.
Recently Jennifer and I were driving up Rampart Range Road located on the west side of the park. We were headed into the mountains and only went through the Garden to take Rampart Range. Shortly after we turned onto the dirt road we saw a lot of people climbing on a rock formation just off the road that we had never noticed before. We decided to check it out and were immediately greeted with this rocky doorway. Walking through the doorway you receive sweeping views of the front range. It is amazing how you can visit a place so often and yet every once in a while still find new things.
If you want to check out this outcropping of red rocks, it is located a sort distance west from Balance Rock. The only access seems to be Rampart Range Road.
